The Blue Pig Farm is an organic pig farm in western France, run by farmer Carl Sheard and monitored by the French Research Institute for Organic Food and Farming (ITAB).

The AGROMIX pilot project site integrates agroforestry and fodder crops for the pigs. With this combination, Carl seeks to become more autonomous by producing his own pig feed, enhance the welfare of the pigs and improve the quality of the meat.

Integrating crops, livestock and trees in a mixed farming system has brought a variety of benefits. The trees provide shade and protection for the pigs who, in turn, provide natural fertiliser through their droppings. The trees can also provide natural food sources for the pigs.

The AGROMIX project promotes the transition towards a resilient and efficient land use in Europe, providing agroecological solutions for farm and land management. The project collaborates with farmers and other relevant actors to find common solutions.
